Living classic of sociology, one of the world's most important social thinkers, representative of postmodernism of the twentieth century Professor Zygmunt Bauman for the first time will visit Lithuania and Vytautas Magnus University.

Professor will conduct a lecture on ‘Natural History of Evil’ on October 1, Friday, 11 a.m. at Aula Magna (Gimnazijos g. 7, Kaunas) of Vytautas Magnus University. Lecture will be held in English, the professor will also present his third book published in Lithuanian language ‘Consuming Life’. After the lecture the question and answer session moderated by prof. Leonid Donskis will follow.

Z. Bauman will also visit Vilnius – September 30, Thursday, 6 p.m. at Vilna Gaon Jewish State Museum of Tolerance Center (Naugarduko 10 / 2, Vilnius) will be his lecture ‘Selves as Objects of Consumption’.

Lectures of Professor Z. Bauman are initiated by the European Parliament member prof. Leonidas Donskis, publishing house 'Apostrofa' and Vytautas Magnus University.

As Tony Blackshaw in his book stated, ‘Zygmunt Bauman became a sociologist because he wants to change the world and in this regard his sociology is first and foremost and extended critique of modernity. Bauman’s is a sociology that recognizes that if in global terms the gap between the rich and poor has grown much larger over the last twenty-five years’.
